Future Berkshire & Eastern Territory report for Boxing Day, Dec. 26, 2022
On the return trip from north eastern Massachusetts we took the long way via the East Deerfield yard. We saw the following locomotives - west end: (all MEC) 5946w,5972e. 5974w. 5936w, 5930e, 5967e looked to have a crew aboard (EDPL?).
7875e. 7797w and 3400w looked to be stripped. 3403e. At the east end was GMTX 5000 and slug GMTX 5001w. We saw the work train including the locomotive crane, an ex B&M baggage car converted from a Pullman, an 2 door ex troop sleeper, and a Guilford painted former coach. Over all the yard looked to be fairly full. Next stop after a late lunch was the Plainville CT yard. From west to east: West track - 3 tank cars. Canal Main through yard was clear, as was the bridge crane track. The freight house tracks (from the north): west track was clear. Middle track had MEC 5943n. East track had 2 loaded centerbeam cars, 1 Albert Bros scrap gondola, and 4 tank cars. The Highland-Canal Line connecting tracks were both clear. Way up north be the airport looked to be at least one tank car. Heading home on Town Line Road we saw the usual 8 tank cars at Amerigas but Forestville Lumber was clear. Bill and Sue Sample |

The 7797 is retired and the 3400 is just waiting for parts to come in..
